Allen Iverson no longer hears the screams from thousands of fans who roared whenever he touched a basketball. The killer crossover that frustrated defenders can now only be seen on old YouTube clips. Without the NBA spotlight, Iverson has been forced to deal with the problems of life outside of basketball.
In less than one week, the most prolific small guy in the history of the NBA has had to deal with the illness of his daughter, the early conclusion of his season and a divorce from his wife of eight years. According to Stephen A. Smith of the Philadelphia Inquirer, Iverson is also dealing with alcohol and gambling problems.
To deal with his family issues, Iverson has apparently been overindulging in alcohol and gambling. His gambling habit has led to him being banned from casinos in Detroit and Atlantic City.
Through Twitter, Iverson spoke out about the allegations and the troubles that he is currently experiencing. “Even though I have become used to hearing people say things about me that aren’t true, it still hurts,” he wrote. “I encourage you to continue your ongoing support and I want you to trust that this is another obstacle in my life that, with God’s help I will overcome.” –amir shaw
