Michael Jordan has put his name in the record books, again. The most celebrated basketball player to ever step on an NBA court has become the first ex-player to own an NBA franchise. The NBA recently approved Jordan’s purchase of the Charlotte Bobcats from BET founder Robert L. Johnson.
Johnson, who was the NBA’s first black owner of a franchise, decided to sell the team after accumulating $100 million in debt.
Jordan, a North Carolina native, will have the opportunity to use his celebrity to boost ticket sells and acquire top-notch talent for the organization. He will also be able to change the name of the team since the Bobcats were essentially named after Johnson. Here are several nicknames that will compliment Jordan as an NBA owner.
The Charlotte Air: Sure, it sounds like an airline, but Jordan’s career took flight as soon as he was given the nickname, Air Jordan.
The Charlotte Jumpmen: How cool would it be to have a Jumpman as the team’s official mascot?
The Charlotte G.O.A.T.S.: Forget about the animal and concentrate solely on the acronym. Greatest of All Time, enough said.
