Diggy Simmons the Next ‘King of Rock?’ Rev. Run’s Son Signs Major Record Deal

Diggy Simmons

Diggy Simmons is one step closer to following in his father’s footsteps. The son of Rev. Run, who was the frontman of the legendary rap group Run-D.M.C., has become a labelmate of T.I. and Lupe Fiasco by signing a record deal with Atlantic Records.

Diggy became an Internet sensation two weeks ago when he released a freestyle over Nas’ “Made You Look” instrumental. After the video appeared on hundreds of blogs, several record labels began bidding for Diggy. He officially signed with Atlantic Records on March 22 and tweeted about his new status. “Taking a tour of the Atlantic offices…This is real surreal right now, its official!”

Diggy first gained national prominence as the reserved middle child on MTV’s “Run’s House.” Although he was often off camera on the hit reality show, his skills as an emcee should help him to come into his own. –a.r.
