The Orlando Magic have bullied the Atlanta Hawks for the last two years by beating them six times in seven games. However, the Hawks caught a slight case of amnesia last night and found a way to beat the Magic for the first time this season.
After trailing 15-2 in the first quarter, the Hawks battled back and eventually led by 10 points in the third quarter. The Magic made another run and Vince Carter of the Magic tied the game in the fourth quarter with 9.9 seconds remaining.
Without timeouts, Joe Johnson of the Hawks took an outside jumper that bounced off of the rim. With one-tenth of a second left in the game, Josh Smith of the Hawks dunked the ball for the game-winning basket.
The Hawks currently trail the Magic by three games for the second seed in the Eastern Conference playoff race. It’s likely that these teams will meet again in the post season. –a.r.
