Imagine what would happen if the top NCAA football and basketball programs were forced to compete without black players. In South Carolina, members of the Legislative Black Caucus are urging black players at the University of South Carolina to boycott the football season because the school’s sole black trustee could be dismissed.
Leah B. Moody, who was appointed to the university’s board after a former member pleaded guilty to bank fraud, will not be able to serve a full term if the legislature doesn’t vote her in. At this point, she does not have enough votes.
The Legislative Black Caucus, black lawmakers and former University of South Carolina football player, Anton Gunn, are reaching out to the families of black football players and asking them to consider not playing for the school.
