Former “America’s Got Talent” contestant Alexis Jordan was officially signed to Roc Nation, according to media reports. The 17-year-old didn’t win on the first season of “America’s Got Talent,” but she secured something much greater when she caught the attention of Beyoncé’s husband.
It’s because the angelic chanteuse can actually sing without the studio tricks.
Following Jordan’s performance of Whitney Houston’s “I Have Nothing” on the TV show, which impressed judges, she became a viral phenom after posting her performances of B.o.B’s “Nothing on You” and Jay-Z’s “Run this Town” on YouTube.
Execs at Stargate and Roc Nation took notice of her obvious singing skills and dazzling looks and flew the Columbia, S.C., starlet up to New York. It was a wrap after that. She is prepared to drop her first single, “Happiness,” an uptempo Stargate-produced joint.
The daughter of a Puerto Rican father and African American mother said she knew something was going down when she was summoned to test for the King of New York. “I thought if they didn’t love me, then they wouldn’t fly me all the way out to New York,” Jordan told reporters after receiving the initial call from Stargate. “I knew I had a good chance. Once I got out there we recorded a few songs and Jay-Z came to the studio. I was so excited! And the next thing I knew I was signed to StarRoc/Roc Nation.”
Looks like “Rude Boy” Rihanna may have some competition for Hov’s love in the studio now. –terry shropshire
