For the first time since being exposed for having extramarital affairs, Tiger Woods held a press conference at Augusta National and answered questions about how his life changed over the last six months.
Woods began by giving a short statement about the positive reception that he has received from fans and other players since his return. He also apologized to fellow pro golfers who have been bombarded by the media over the last six months. Once Woods’ finished his statement, he was asked about the most difficult part of his ordeal.
“It was difficult for me to look at myself in a light that I never wanted to see myself in,” Woods said. “I had to break all that down and take a hard look at myself. That’s when I found inner peace. It was also difficult to deal with the constant harassment of my family. It’s hard for us to heal, we’re trying to get through this the best we can.”
He also answered questions about his involvement with Dr. Anthony Galea who is being investigated by federal authorities for distributing performance-enhancing drugs. Woods said that Dr. Galea never supplied him with steroids and that he has never used drugs in his life.
Woods, who attended counseling for sex addiction, also discussed missing his son’s first birthday and how lying to himself destroyed his family.
“Because of the time frame, I missed my son’s first birthday and that’s something that I will regret forever,” he said. “I acted terribly. I made bad decisions and I hurt so many people close to me. I fooled myself. I lied to a lot of people and I rationalized and lied to myself. I take full responsibility for what I have done.” –amir shaw
