The self-loathing among black youth continues to surge out of control in Chicago. In only four months, 113 people have been murdered in the city. To put an end to the pervasive violence, two Illinois representatives are hoping that the National Guard will help patrol the South Side.
John Fritchey and LaShawn Ford believe that the police are outnumbered by gangs and that the National Guard could help control the violence in the nine most dangerous neighborhoods in the city. Mayor Richard Daley supports the idea.
While bringing the National Guard to Chicago could be a temporary solution, it will not solve the problem on a long-term basis. The violence will cease only when the mentality that causes self-hatred is eliminated. –a.r.
