A star-studded crowd converged at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas to witness a boxing match that promised to make history. Muhammad Ali, Jay-Z, Will Smith, Diddy, Mary J. Blige, Mariah Carey and Mike Tyson were on hand as Floyd Mayweather added to his legacy by defeating “Sugar” Shane Mosley in a 12 round boxing match.
Mosley struck first by hitting Mayweather with several right hooks during the second round. Mayweather, who has rarely taken hard hits throughout his career, seemed stunned and a bit hurt from Mosley’s onslaught.
“I caught him with my big right hand and I tried to move around, but by that time he was too quick and I was too tight,” Mosley said. “After the right hand, I thought I needed to knock him out and I needed to do it sooner than later. But I couldn’t adjust and he did.”
Mayweather quickly gained his composer after the second round and was able to control the rest of the fight by using superior defense that frustrated Mosley.
“I wanted to give the fans what they wanted to see, a toe-to-toe battle,” Mayweather said. “It wasn’t the same style for me, but I wanted to be aggressive and I knew I could do it.”
Mayweather will likely fight Manny Pacquiao in the fall in what could be one of the highest grossing boxing matches in history. –amir shaw
