Hall of Fame NFL Player Lawrence Taylor Arrested for Rape, Beating of 15-Year-Old

Lawrence TaylorPerhaps the greatest defensive player in the history of the National Football League was just arrested in upstate New York for the rape and beating of a 15-year-old girl.

Lawrence Taylor, the legendary New York Giants linebacker and first-ballot Hall of Famer is accused of sexual assault and felony assault at a Holiday Inn in Montebello, N.Y.

Police have released limited information because details of the alleged rape have not been made public and charges have not yet been filed, but they shared this much:

The victim “was a runaway since March, and there was a pimp involved,” a Ramapo Police Department supervisor told the Journal News. “She got punched in the face. We’re not sure who did it.”

Many call Taylor the greatest linebacker to ever strap on a pair of cleats. He is a two-time Super Bowl champ and was voted the Most Valuable Player in 1986, an extremely rare feat for a defensive player. His combination of speed and power made him a menace to quarterbacks and running backs alike. At 6-foot-4 and 240 pounds, Taylor could cover receivers, blitz the quarterback or bull rush gigantic offensive linemen. He had 142 sacks over the course of his career and basically remade the position of outside linebacker. He was named Defensive Player of the Year three times.

But the same reckless abandon Taylor displayed on the football field has caused him much pain and heartache off of it.

He was suspended by the NFL on multiple occasions for drug use. After his career ended in 1993, he was arrested three different times on drug charges. Just last year, Taylor was charged with leaving the scene of an accident in Miami. –terry shropshire
