Lawrence Taylor Released on $75,000 Bond for Allegedly Raping a Minor; Was He Set Up?

Lawrence Taylor

NFL Hall of Famer Lawrence Taylor was released on $75,000 bond after being charged with rape on May 6 in Suffern, N.Y. A 15-year-old prostitute accused Taylor of rape and claimed that he beat her after paying $300 for sex.

The alleged victim is a runaway from the Bronx, N.Y., and worked for a 36-year-old pimp named Rasheed Davis. Taylor and his wife, Lynette, are calling the accusations false and saying that it was a setup.

Taylor, one of the greatest linebackers to ever play in the NFL, dealt with drug problems during his pro career and after retirement. He was suspended for 30 days by the NFL in 1988 for testing positive for cocaine, but he often spoke about being clean from drugs now and focusing on his family. Taylor faces a maximum of four years in prison if convicted. –a.r.
