It’s been nearly seven years since Chamillionaire and Paul Wall hit a stage together in Houston. That is in large part due to disagreements in the past. Today, the late Pimp C‘s vision of reconciliation, like the lyrics suggest in his hit single “Knockin’ Doors Down,” has become a reality.
The two were initially partners in rhyme when their careers took off in the early 2000s. They released a joint album in 2003, Get Your Mind Correct, but as disputes surfaced, they went their separate ways. “I’m just glad to be at this point, to be at peace with him and making music,” says Chamillionaire. “Me and Paul are just something special because of our history.”
Both have new albums due to drop this year and each is featured on the other’s album. “That’s where it all started, me and Cham,” says Paul Wall. “We’ve grown together, came up in Swisher House together and were grindin’ together.”
Fans will agree, when they set their differences aside to collaborate, they create bangin’ hits like “In Love With My Money.”
“Any beef or anything that’s going on — we’ve moved on to turn the music scene into a movement again,” says Paul Wall. And leading by example and showing unity is how they are representing the Houston hip-hop scene. Recently, Bun B was on the set for the video shoot of Chamillionaire’s single, “Main Event,” to show his support for their reconciliation.
“It’s time to support each other. It’s no secret that Texas ain’t … the place it used to be. We’re trying to make the movement strong again, because it is,” says Chamillionaire. –callye peyrovi
