Man Who Killed Akon's Artist, Dolla, Acquitted of Murder; Did Rap Lyrics Play a Role?

Aubrey Louis Berry has been acquitted of the murder of Atlanta rapper Dolla. Berry shot and killed Dolla in 2009 after the two exchanged words at a mall in Los Angeles.

According to reports, Berry, 24, and Dolla, Anthony Burton II, fought several times in Atlanta before the shooting in Los Angeles. Berry’s attorney, Howard Price, told jurors that Burton threatened to kill Berry. Price also used Burton’s rap lyrics to paint the deceased man as a criminal who was prone to violence.

Berry, a graduate of Clark Atlanta University, told jurors that he experienced the violent lyrics that Burton rapped about firsthand.

Jurors believed Berry’s testimony and concluded that he wasn’t guilty of first degree murder and assault with a firearm.

Dolla was signed to Akon’s Konvict Muzic and had a hit single titled “Who Is That?”, which featured T-Pain. -a.r.
