Drake celebrated the release of his highly anticipated album, Thank Me Later, by hosting an album release party with Rolling Out magazine at Club Vibes in Chicago.
On a night when the Lakers defeated the Celtics to win the NBA Finals, several current and former NBA players showed up at Club Vibes to congratulate Drake on the release. Derrick Rose (Chicago Bulls), Shawn Marion(Dallas Mavs) and Antoine Walker partied with Drake in VIP style as his entire album was previewed for party goers.
But while partying was on the agenda, the buzz around the club was the prediction regarding Thank Me Later’s first week sells. There hasn’t been a hip-hop artists to sell over one million albums in one week since Lil Wayne released Tha Carter III in 2008.
Some partygoers anticipated that Drake would sell as many as three million records while others predicted that he would sell 500,000.
With the album being leaked two weeks prior to the release date, many fans may shy away from going to the record store or purchasing it online. But it’s highly likely that Drake will still have the biggest selling hip-hop release of 2010. –a.r.
