Kid Capri, albeit unconvincingly, feted the super producer with a narrated musical tribute with a medley of all his hits since the NWA days. The crowd just couldn’t get into it, though, because it sounded like it was coming out of a transistor radio. The sound engineer eventually pumped up the volume, but by then the audience was disengaged.
Slim Shady saved the day though, along with comedic ASCAP President Paul Williams, with a heartfelt account of how Dre “believed in and took a chance on him when no one else did” and how he owes him his life.
Dre was real in his acceptance speech, letting fly several f-bombs as he conveyed how touched he was by receiving the honor. He was especially thankful to his wife, who he referred to as his partner, and pretty much set up a nookie session from the podium.
