Ne-Yo tied with Dream and Tricky Stewart for ASCAP’S top honor of songwriters of the year. The ASCAP awards are held annually to honor top performers in the lucrative world of publishing at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, Calif.

Ne-Yo was honored — suprisingly for the first time — for “Mad,” “Miss Independent” and the bonus track “She Got Her Own” from his platinum-selling album Year of the Gentleman, as well as for three songs that he penned for other artists — “Epiphany (I’m Leaving)” by Chrisette Michelle, “Knock You Down” by Kerri Hilson featuring Kanye West and Ne-Yo, and “Spotlight” by Jennifer Hudson.

C. “Tricky” Stewart and The-Dream were honored for “Blame It” by Jamie Foxx featuring T-Pain, “Just Like Me” by Jamie Foxx featuring T.I., “Rockin’ That Thang” by The-Dream, “Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)” by Beyoncé, “Throw It In The Bag” by Fabolous featuring The-Dream and “Trading Places” by Usher.

Ne-Yo gave major props to his mother (who wasn’t present) in his acceptance speech, Tricky thanked his wife, and Dream … his recently born child, and that was it. Rumors have been circulating that he and the child’s mother, Christina Milian, have been on the outs and his speech pretty much confirmed it. She got no love at all.
