Nicki Minaj in Twitter Beef With Wale Even as She Names Her Debut CD

Young Money sensation Nicki Minaj added some theatrics and dramatics in the days leading up to the naming of her much-anticipated debut CD.

She spent weeks telling her fans via Twitter that she was mulling over the title of her first official joint, and even at one point half-seriously consider giving it the generic name, The Album. In the meantime, she was embroiled in a Twitter spat with artist Wale about who has the most legitimate Twitter followers. And finally Minaj kept her promise to her Twitter fans by titling her first album under Cash Money Pink Friday.

The album is due to drop Nov. 23.

Nicki Minaj said she christened the album Pink Friday as an ode to the traditional “Black Friday,” the much over-hyped day after Thanksgiving. As the busiest shopping day of the year and commencement of the Christmas holiday season, she wants to claim the day as her own. Thus, Pink Friday.

The naming of the album comes on the heals of the eccentric wigged being nominated as Best New Artist for the upcoming MTV Video Music Awards. Nicki Minaj told reporters she was “in heaven” over the surprise nod.

All the while, the number of Nicki Minaj’s Twitter followers have climbed well past the 1 million mark, touching off a celebration in Nicki’s camp and among her “Barbie“ followers. This has artist Wale a little uncomfortable since his Twitter numbers are far below Nicki’s. He accuses Nicki of going Hollywood: “First of all, she is so she’s so Young Moneyed out now, that she has an assistant type the numbers for her,” he said.”

Nicki came back and said that Wale will be on the VMAs so he will have more followers than her. But, of course, this conversation came before she learned that she will now be there.

They volley words back and forth, with Nicki Minaj saying that in order to have more fans, “you have to love your fans. You have to love them.”

Wale summarily dismissed Nicki Minaj’s followers as “minions” and “psychopathic little 15-year-olds who don’t speak English.”

At which point Nicki admonishes Wale not to call her beloved fans “psycho.” –terry shropshire
