On Wednesday, Aug. 4., a Miami man became so upset that his 2-year-old son was “acting like a girl” that he apparently decided to box him to toughen the boy up.
Lee Willie DeJesus, 23, put on boxing gloves and punched his son 15 times in the face, head, torso and shoulders. After 15 minutes of being punched by his father, the child suffered a seizure and fell unconscious. DeJesus waited an hour to call 911, only doing so once the boy’s lips began to turn blue.
DeJesus initially lied to authorities and told them that the child was hit beaten by a babysitter who was hired by the child’s mother. But after several hours of questioning by police, DeJesus admitted to punching the child and was arrested. He is being held without bail.
The child is currently brain dead and on life support. If the child dies, prosecutors will likely charge DeJesus with first-degree murder. –a.r.
