President Barack Obama celebrated his 49th birthday by hosting a pick-up game with several of the top NBA All-Stars. Played at Fort McNair, the basketball game featured stars Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, Magic Johnson, Dwyane Wade, Carmelo Anthony and Derrick Rose.
President Obama’s dream team played before a crowd of wounded soldiers. After the game, the players and the wounded soldiers joined Obama at the White House for a barbecue that featured shrimp from the Gulf region.
Because basketball is President Obama’s favorite sport, we wondered what the NBA would look like if it was run like the White House. –amir shaw
The NBA’s Executive Branch
President: Kobe Bryant
With five championship rings, Kobe Bryant stands out as the most popular player in the NBA and recently tied with Tiger Woods as the most popular athlete of all sports.
Vice President: Dwyane Wade
Until about one month ago, LeBron James was second in line to the NBA’s commander in chief. But by defecting to the Miami Heat, James relinquished his position to teammate Dwyane Wade. If Bryant retired from the NBA today, Wade would take over as the top player in the league.
Secretary of State: LeBron James
As Wade’s second fiddle, James is in the perfect position to advise his new teammate on how to conquer other teams. Although James is somewhat of an assistant, he has the wherewithal and ability to take over during critical situations.
Secretary of Defense: Dwight Howard
If the NBA was similar to the White House, Dwight Howard would be in charge of defense. As the top rebounder and shot blocker, Howard is suited for guarding the baseline and the paint.
