2 Live Crew Returns to Music, Despite Stroke and Midlife Crisis

The one thing you can always count on when it comes to life is changes. The past year has presented the legendary bad boys of hip-hop, 2 Live Crew with some monumental changes, including Fresh Kid Ice’s stroke, which significantly impaired his speech and affected the recording process of their forthcoming release, Just Wanna Be Heard.

“I never spoke about it to the press before but last year around Thanksgiving I had a stroke. I am still recovering from the effect it had on my balance and speech. I still get weakened in my arm too. Some say I won’t be the same and to give it up, but I say I am not done yet. It gave me a drive to rehab myself and get back out there because I am still here,” he reveals.

While Fresh Kid Ice is making progress with his recovery, Brother Marquis finds himself in the throes of a midlife crisis that has caused him to confront insecurities when it comes to love.

“I’m getting old and going through a midlife crisis. A lot of f—– up s— I did with women is coming back … to haunt me. … I’m now insecure. It’s hard to trust and believe someone loves me and has my back,” he admits.

Those major life changes have both members more focused on their music than ever before.

With their recent honor bestowed upon them at the “2010 VH1 Hip-Hop Honors: The Dirty South Edition,” and upcoming album release, the duo is clearly determined to be heard once again no matter the changes that come their way. souleo
