Rock star Ted Nugent’s mouth and words finally got him into trouble. Not for his usual cursing at President Barack Obama on his many shows around the country on a continuous basis, but rather for a statement made during a concert.
While performing at Diamond Jo Casino in Dubuque, Iowa, the rock musician made racially insensitive remarks while on stage. What made it worse was that members of the audience cheered and applauded. The comment basically asserted that he was happy and approved of seeing so many white people in the audience and that it was nice to see a “white town” upon which the audience erupted. Not all, but more than enough to drowned out any sounds of disapproval.
This is nothing new, after all the aging rock star identifies with the Tea Party while at the same time states that Martin Luther King Jr., is an inspiration to him. Strange seeing that when he was at the Texas governor’s innaugural ball in 2007, it was reported that he went on stage wearing a cut-off T-shirt emblazoned with a Confederate flag while making remarks about undocumented immigrants which included kicking them out of the country.
In 2009, he served as the master of ceremony for a Pro-Coal Friends of America rally in West Virginia for the corporate giant Massey Energy of Richmond Virginia. Earlier this year, Massey Energy ran the coal mine in West Virginia where an explosion killed 25 people. Massey, which owns 42 coal mines, has received more than 2,000 safety violations this year.
Ted Nugent may not be a racist, but his remarks and comments continue to follow him and contain serious racial undertones. –torrance stephens
