FELA!, a recording of music from the sensational Broadway hit of the same name, is now in stores for those who couldn’t get enough of Sahr Ngaujah as Fela singing with members of the funky Antibalas, the band praised as the only one in America “that can capture this music with the thrill and intensity of Fela Kuti himself.” Lillias White and Saycon Sengbloh, who play Funmilayo and Sandra Isadore, respectively, also lend their vocals to this CD. Each night, the cast performs before a sold-out audience with intensity and high energy. Though I didn’t have the pleasure of experiencing the “King of Afrobeat’s” music live, his talent undoubtedly transcends onto the stage supernaturally, and is forever mine now that I have this soundtrack.
