No more Bryant Park.
Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week made its debut at Lincoln Center on Thursday, Sept. 9. To commence the highly anticipated event, Graey unveiled its SS11 collection show, at an off-Lincoln Center location, Manhattan Movement & Arts Center. I was so delirious from hopping a plane from Atlanta to New York at the crack of dawn that I took a yellow taxi from Lincoln Center to the venue, which was around the corner, costing me a whopping $4. Before I could close the door of the taxi, we arrived at our destination. The short trip explained the bewilderment on the taxi driver’s face when I gave him the address.
It was well worth it. Graey’s line of women’s contemporary clothing was launched in 2007 by Janet Kim, a Harvard University grad who has studied in Paris at Christian Dior, Rochas and haute couture at the renowned Chambre Syndicale (a fashion house founded by Englishman Charles Worth, aka the father of modern Haute Couture).
Graey’s collection of tanks and tees are embellished with embroidery and lace appliqués. The high-end, casual knits and sophisticated silk pieces are surf-inspired and paired with moccasins, producing a boho-femme flair. –yvette caslin
