Michael Vick Named Eagles Starting Quarterback; But Will Corporations Hire Him as an Endorser?

altTwo years ago, Michael Vick’s days consisted of being in a jail cell for 23 hours with only one hour for recreation. He lost millions of dollars after the Atlanta Falcons cut him, and he was forced to file bankruptcy. A few sports analyst predicted that Vick would never play in the NFL again once he was sentenced to prison for dog fighting.

However, Vick has proven that redemption can be achieved by confronting problems and working hard to overcome them.

After two amazing games of playing as the back up to the injured Kevin Kolb, head coach Andy Reid decided to name Vick the starter for the remainder of season.

But now that Vick will lead the Eagles, will corporations seek to hire him as an endorser? During his playing days with the Falcons, Vick endorsed companies such as Nike, Coca-Cola, EA Sports, Kraft Foods and Airtran. But he lost all of those endorsements after being arrested, ultimately losing millions of dollars.

Kobe Bryant resigned with Nike after losing his contract during his rape trial in 2004. And Tiger Woods continues to get paid from endorsing products after his illicit private affairs became public.  But Vick seems to have committed the unpardonable crime in fighting and abusing dogs.

Initially, companies will continue to distance themselves from Vick because he remains hated by a segment of society who will never forgive him for his transgressions. But if capitalism has its say, major corporations will eventually rush to sign Vick if he continues to win on the football field.–amir shaw
