Singer Marsha Ambrosius on Why Celebrity Sex Tapes Don’t Bother Her

altWith an inundation of celebrity scandals, violent imagery and disturbing daily news it takes a whole lot to shock people these days. Still, there’s one topic that can always get people to take notice — sex. Whether you put it on tape like Kim Kardashian or write about in poetic form like former Floetry singer-songwriter Marsha Ambrosius, sex sells.

Ambrosius who is releasing her debut solo effort, Late Night & Early Mornings is aware of this truth and on the single, “Hope She Cheats On You (With a Basketball Player)” she references Kardashian’s strategic use of sex with the lines:

Hope that she Kim Kardashianed her way up. Don’t know the difference between a touchdown and a layup.” But as she told rolling out those lines are not meant to be an insult.

“In the record it’s considered as a shot at her when it’s pointing out that no one is perfect. I don’t have a sex tape with an R&B singer but I do have a text message of my private parts I sent to a dude that may get out to the public. Everyone did their share of dirt,” she says.

altWhile some of us wait with guilty but nonetheless baited breath for those Ambrosius nude pictures to leak, she is busy crafting sensual song lyrics that give women comfort in expressing their sexuality.

“I don’t think women get to be forward enough. We are at a time in music where a lot is censored and repressed. I approached everything on the record like say exactly what you want,” she says.

Listeners will find pleasure in songs like “With You” and the album’s title track, which find Ambrosius evoking the sensuality that lies within us all, whether or not we decide to put it on tape. –souleo
