Obama Breaks Tradition — Doesn’t Call San Francisco Giants After World Series Win

President Obama has a lot on his plate. The midterm elections, a possaltible sweep in the House and Senate by the Republicans, the Tea Party and his slumping approval ratings. However, the question is, was he so preoccupied with those troubles that it caused him to neglect calling the San Francisco Giants after they beat the Texas Rangers four games to one and won the World Series?

Although the celebration started in the locker room, complete with smiles dancing and champagne, during the trophy celebration it was reported that the only thing missing was the traditional congratulatory call from the president acknowledging their victory.

Yes that’s right, President Barack Obama either forgot to call the Giants during their clubhouse celebration or decided to break a longtime political practice. Giants spokesperson Staci Slaughter said, “We gave (Obama’s) people the private line into Bruce Bochy’s office and other numbers to contact us.”

This is the Giants first World Series championship since 1954 after several close calls, most recently in 1989 and 2002. A professed White Sox fan, Obama recently stated that he was pulling for the Giants.

Given this tumultuous time in his political career as president, this may be a misstep he cannot afford, given the petty environment that has manifested since his election.

For weeks, he has cheered for the Giants. During a fundraising stop in the San Francisco Bay Area in late October, he played to the crowds by continually asking about the Giants. –torrance stephens, ph.d.
