Gucci Mane Arrested Again ... Charges Dropped ... for Now

Prison must be a magical place, where the cell bars are diamond encrusted and the shower floors are paved with gold.

Why else would high-profile rappers keep finding themselves behind bars?

The latest hip-hop casualty was Atlanta rapper Gucci Mane. I know … him, again.

According to Atlanta Police Department spokesman Curtis Davenport, Gucci was arrested for driving on the wrong side of the road, running a red light or stop sign, damage to government property, obstruction, no license, no proof of insurance and other traffic charges. A few of those charges are head scratchers considering the amount of money he often brags about having. If his boasts are correct, then at the very least he should have insurance, and a driver (you know, since he doesn’t have a license).

Additional reports from the police department lead us to believe that the accident was caused by a confrontation inside the car between Gucci and an unidentified passenger. When police arrived on the scene, they were forced to subdue Gucci — whose real name is Radric Davis — with pepper spray because he refused to stop beefing with the passenger.

This arrest comes on the heels of a May release from prison for violating his parole. At the time of that release, the rapper appeared contrite, and determined not to return.

“I have made some mistakes in my life that have hurt a lot of people who care about me,” he said at the time. “I have worked very hard to get past them, but those mistakes have brought me to where I am today, and they will not be repeated. These past six months have been a difficult time, but fortunately I have learned a great deal from my experience. I was able to do a great deal of soul searching; I am coming out with a new attitude towards life.”

Apparently that new attitude is still a work in progress. Stayed tuned for more updates as this story develops. –djr

UPDATE: During a court hearing on Wednesday, Nov. 3, the case against Gucci Mane was dropped “for want of prosecution.” The judge informed the rapper that the charges could be refiled.
