Alicia Keys, Jennifer Hudson, Usher, Others Dump Social Media; Strike for World Aids Day

On Wednesday, Dec. 1, celebrities like Lady Gaga, Justin Timberlake, Usher, the Kardashians, Jennifer Hudson, Swizz Beats, Serena Williams, Jay Sean, Willow and Jaden Smith, Ryan Seacrest and others will be signing off of social media in an effort to raise one million dollars for Alicia Keys’ charity, Keep a Child Alive.

altKeep a Child Alive was co-founded by Alicia Keys to provide treatment and support to families affected by HIV/AIDS. The social media abstinence campaign — which begins on World AIDS Day — is urging fans to ‘Buy Life,’ with high-profile mouthpieces staying offline until Keys’ charity hits the donation goal.

When you Buy Life, you give life to millions of people affected by HIV/AIDS in Africa and India by providing the medicine, food and shelter needed to fight this awful disease.
The Huffington Post reports:

“Videos of celebs in coffins are meant to represent their “digital deaths … Why do we care so much about the death of one celebrity as opposed to millions and millions of people dying …” remarked Leigh Blake, president and co-founder of Keep a Child Alive.

Donations are being accepted through text messages and bar code technology. Visit Buylife.org or Keepachildalive.org for more information.
