It was a busy holiday weekend for Kanye West. Not only did the rapper perform in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, but he also took the time to unleash another rant — this time directed towards Taylor Swift, George Bush, and anyone else that popped in his mind during a nine-minute aside at a New York performance last week. Here are some of the highlights.
On his musical comeback …
“To make an album after the year that I had, and all of the ‘ your career is over!!!’ and ‘die n—a die!!!’ and ‘you’ll never make music!!!’ … and to come back and do 100K on the first day digital alone … to be slated to do over 600K in the first week … I don’t talk about numbers, but what that says to me is people want me to keep doing music, and for me to not give up.”
On Taylor Swift winning the VMA over Beyoncé …
“When you do things like what happened last year, it’s disrespectful to everyone that’s creative … it’s a smack in the face to everyone that tries to do something real. If I wasn’t drunk, I would have been on stage longer. But am I the only one that’s not crazy here???”
Comparing the Bush episode to the Taylor Swift Incident …
“What I said at that time wasn’t exactly worded right. But everybody said, ‘Oh my God Kanye, you said something that represents me.’ And the whole time I’m thinking in my mind, ‘that’s not exactly what I wanted to say.’ I was emotional, and that’s not exactly how I wanted to word it. But I rode that wave, just like Taylor never came to my defense in any interview, and rode the wave, that’s the way I rode that wave with the Bush comment.”
