The Soul Train Awards had its moment in the sun last night, as Centric and BET aired the 2010 installation of the impressive award show. Hosted by Taraji P. Henson and Terrence Howard, the show maintained the spirit of “Soul Train” by focusing its energy on delivering soul-stirring performances, much like the Soul Train of yesteryear.
That mission was accomplished right out the gate as R. Kelly opened the show with a gentle reminder that he still has a lot of music left in him. After Kelly brought the house down, the audience was treated to performances by Ne-Yo, Erykah Badu, Bruno Mars, Tank, Eric Benet, Jasmine Sullivan, Cee-Lo and reggae star Gyptian. The night’s tributes belonged to Anita Baker and Ron Isley as the show paid homage to their musical contributions.
