LeBron's Cleveland Homecoming Like a Spat Between Ex-Lovers

LeBron James played against his former team, the Cleveland Cavaliers, for the first time since defecting from the squad to join the Miami Heat this past summer. Cleveland fans wore shirts and held signs condemning James. They chanted a–hole as he warmed up and stretched. And the boos thundered to a crescendo as James performed his powder ritual before tip-off.

From the opening tip, the fans wanted to let James know that he was a loser, the scum of the earth, and that he made the worst mistake of his life by leaving Cleveland. But deep down, the Cavs’ fans hate was a disguise of desperation and lost love.

Intense relationships can be difficult to get over. Especially when the jilted lover continues to yearn for the ex. The scorned partner wonders why they weren’t good enough to keep the person they loved. Anger sets in and they begin to react irrationally by hating every reminder of the person who left them. They throw fits and attempt to make their ex-partner feel the pain that they have to live with.

James scored 38 points and the Heat destroyed the Cavs in a game whose outcome was never in question.

It hurts like hell when your ex-lover looks better than ever and has a new partner who seems to have great potential. But once the scorned lover has vented his or her frustration, it’s time to accept the reality of the situation, leave the past in the past, and move on. –amir shaw
