Black Graduates From Harvard and Yale Thrown Out of Boston Bar

altIf you were affiliated with two of the most prestigious universities in the world and you decided to attend a football game between those two universities, what would you expect to happen at a post-game celebration at a bar?

Well, if one is an African American student or graduate from these institutions of higher learning, it might be something one does not expect.

After a Harvard-Yale football game, a group of alumni and students from both institutions had a party at a nightclub in Boston. Unfortunately, the owners of the club decided to close the club because they said it was attracting the “wrong crowd.”

The alumni and students were standing in line waiting to enter when the Cure Lounge was abruptly closed. Many of the graduates were not allowed to enter although they had purchased tickets for the event. The incident, which happened last month, prompted the Attorney Gneral of Massachusetts to launch an investigation.

According to witnesses, managers from The Cure Lounge claimed the people in line were local gang members and demanded to see university identification. Individuals who organized the party said that returning alumni no longer had university credentials, and that a strict guest list was in place so that those with pre-purchased tickets could attend. A little after 11:00 p.m., owners and management of the bar decided to shut the party down.

“We have received multiple complaints about the alleged incident, which we are currently reviewing,” said a spokesperson for the Attorney General’s office.
