When Michael Vick isn’t terrorizing opposing defenses in the NFL, the Philadelphia Eagles quarterback takes the time to speak with young people about the repercussions that he faced after participating in a dogfighting ring.
During a recent interview with theGrio, Vick revealed that he desires to own a dog again. Because of his conviction, he is prohibited from owning a pet.
“I would love to get another dog in the future,” he said. “I think it would be a big step for me in the rehabilitation process. I think just to have a pet in my household and to show people that I genuinely care, and my love, and my passion for animals.”
It’s unlikely that Vick will be able to own a pet anytime soon, but the judge in his case should consider allowing him to own a pet in the future. Vick grew up in an area where dogfighting was a part of the culture. But if Sarah Palin is allowed to kill animals on TV with impunity, Vick should be given a second chance to become a dog owner. –a.r.
