The annual celebratory ritual known as New Year’s Eve kicks off with the biggest stars in hip-hop, and popular music, for that matter, ranging from BET to TV One.
The current king of pop and hip-hop, Jay Z, will ring in the New Year inthe Sin City. The rapper will take the stage as part of a luxurious New Year’s Eve party at the $3.9 billion Cosmopolitan Hotel in Las Vegas. Although we don’t now if wifey Bey Bey is attending, other celebrities expected at the event include Jennifer Lopez, husband Marc Anthony and Selita Ebanks.
It makes sense that the Cash Money/Young Money crew, who dominated popular culture in 2010 — both positively and negatively — will be the feature acts on BET’s “106 & Party Presents A Young Money Cash Money New Years!” The whole crew, sans Drake, will blow up the spot including Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj, Bow Wow and Birdman.
The conspicuous Cash Money no show, two-time Grammy nominated Drake, got scooped up by the ageless Dick Clark. He, along with Willow Smith, Ne-Yo, Jennifer Hudson, Fergie of the Black Eyed Peas, Avril Lavigne, Natastha Bedingfield, and Mike Posner will be featured on the 39th annual “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest” on ABC. Arguably the most popular and doubtlessly the most populous program on TV and in person will broadcast performances from the media and entertainment capitals of the country, in New York’s Times Square and Los Angeles, respectively.
NBC will have the “New Year’s Eve with Carson Daly” who will — guess what? — have Lil Wayne and Nicki Minaj in the spot beginning at 11 p.m. EST. Also on hand will be U2s Bono and The Edge who will discuss their new Spiderman Broadway musical, which should be a real highlight.
Not to be left out, the “MTV New Year’s Eve Bash” will air with mindless goof Snooki and her “Jersey Shore” peeps on hand in Times Square not far from Dick Clark and Co.
After the stroke of midnight, TV One will air the spectacular performances of Janet Jackson, Alicia Keys and others from this past summer’s Essence Music Festival in New Orleans.
Finally, if you are conscious and sober on New Year‘s Day, you can got and scoop up Foxie Brown‘s new joint that she‘s debuting. The Brooklyn, N.Y. rapper has teamed with Daddy Bigg$, CEO of Platinum Camp, Bernadette Brennan Management and Nightlife Productions to drop a new single titled “U Ain’t Ruff Enough.”
