Recently, it was revealed through Riverside County Superior Court case documents that legendary singer Etta James has been diagnosed with leukemia and dementia.
According to her Beverly Hills physician, Elaine James, the diseases have ravaged her mental and physical state, leaving her unable to feed, dress, bathe herself or even sign her name.
While the 72-year-old singer fights for her life, her family is now fighting in the courtroom over her medical bills.
According to The Press-Enterprise, her husband of 41 years, Artis Mills, has requested that $1 million be moved from his wife’s three accounts into a joint account with him or to an account with him alone to cover James’ medical bills.
However, her son, Donte James, is requesting that a third party be responsible for the money as to avoid any present and future family conflicts.
According to court documents, James gave power of attorney to her sons Donte and Sametto James and Donte’s wife, Christy James, in 2008. However, Mills is challenging this power of attorney.
Friends and fans are hopeful that the singer can make a significant recovery, but will her family be able to withstand the legal battle that’s sure to put a strain on their bond?
