Singer-songwriter J. Mitchell stopped by rolling out wielding nothing more than her trusted guitar and an infectious smile.
“I was told that I could come up here and possibly perform for you,” she offered while greeting those standing around in the reception area.
Shortly after her arrival, I was summoned up front to meet her. Instantly drawn in as well, I quickly suggested that she show us what she could do.
She didn’t disappoint. The energy that J. Mitchell emoted instantly drew the entire room in, as she passionately strummed her guitar while belting out heartfelt lyrics. Her performance left me reflecting on some of the acts that I enjoy live.
Here Are My Top 3:
Ryan Leslie
If you’ve never seen Ryan Leslie live, then that may be one of life’s greatest tragedies. While he will never been confused for being the world’s best singer, what he lacks in vocal ability, he more than makes up for in raw passion for his life’s work. He cares so much about his music that the audience in turn begins to care, too. You can’t beat a live show like that.
Kanye West
For as much grief as he causes himself and others, few can rival a Kanye West live show. Whether you love or hate him, the awe-inspiring 90 minute-display of lights and energy will leave you walking away with a high level of respect for him as a musician.
Jill Scott
She’s like the Maya Angelou of neo soul. That’s the feeling I always get when seeing a Jill Scott live show. She spits lyrical poetry in a way that intoxicates her female fans while simultaneously intriguing the men with her unabashed sexuality. Not a bad combination at all.
