“I happen 2 b producing esperanza’s next Lp. She is a sweet talented woman I wish the haters wld be more careful w/ comments,” tweeted Q-Tip on Valentine’s Day. “Wait till yall hear her new s—!!!!”
Though it seems like a surprising collaboration, the two actually complement each other well musically.
Spalding has been praised by music legends and critics for her blend of jazz and fusion music, and Q-Tip and his legendary hip-hop group, A Tribe Called Quest, were at the forefront of a movement that ushered in an era of hip-hop when retro jazz samples were dominating the genre’s soundscape.
Q-Tip is set to star as iconic jazz trumpeter and composer Miles Davis in an upcoming biopic.
The Q-Tip-helmed album will be titled Radio Music Society and will be released later this year.
What do you think of Q-Tip’s defense of Spalding? Do you think they make a good creative combo? –nicholas robinson
