Major League Baseball pitcher Mark Buehrle threw a wicked fastball under Michael Vick’s chin when he told the media that he wished that harm would come to the Comeback Player of the Year.
Buerle, the Chicago White Sox hurler, and his wife, Jamie, watched football games hoping and rooting for Michael Vick to get injured. The quotes came from an MLB.com story by Scott Merkin posted on Wednesday which centered on the couple’s commitment to animal rights.
“(Vick) had a great year and a great comeback, but there were times where we watched the game and I know it’s bad to say, but there were times where we hope[d] he [would] get hurt. Everything you’ve done to these dogs, something bad needs to happen to these guys.”
The quotes on Vick have since been removed from the story as well as Buehrle’s Twitter account.
But, according to CBS.com, Buerhle was also quoted in the MLB.com story as saying:
“Even if you are not a dog lover, how can you sit there and make two dogs fight and one is going to die? How could you do that if you are somewhat sane?”
Despite being a lifelong dog lover, I believe that you are somewhat insane if you place a canine’s life above that of a human being, which many dog lovers do. Many so-called animal lovers are social cripples — or even sociopaths — who are incapable of forming normal relationships with their fellow human beings. They therefore develop abnormal attachments to their pets. That would explain the tidal wave of outrage against Vick, while the deafening silence continues at the widespread human suffering in this country.
Furthermore, if Buehrle really wanted Vick to get hurt that badly — and if he were a man — he would have made an appointment to meet up with Vick at an undisclosed location to see if he could personally inflict pain on Vick. We know, however, that Buehrle is not only an unforgiving hypocrite, we also know that he is a coward to spit venom at Vick from the protection of his four walls. He and the legion of witch hunters who share the sentiments that Buehrle spouted, would never say that to Vick’s face. –terry shropshire
