The Black Heritage Committee hosted its 18th Annual Black Heritage Western Gala to promote the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo and the historical role of black cowboys in the sport.
The Black Heritage Western Gala raises funds for scholarships for urban youth. Proceeds benefit the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Educational Fund.
More than 1,500 guests decked out in full western regalia looked on as black cowboys, educators and activists were honored for their contributions to the community.
Nineteen high school seniors were awarded a 15,000 scholarship in 2010 as a result of the BHC’s fundraising efforts.
