Athena Elliott, Owner and Creator of SPAthena Advanced Nail Care, Takes Nail Design to New Heights

Athena Elliott has been in the nail business for more than 20 years and has helped to bring the Minx nail technique to mainstream media with her celebrity designs for Keri Hilson, LeToya Luckett, Kim Zolciak of “RHOA” and Estelle to name a few. A true pioneer of nail art, Athena has used her advanced nail care experience to create “SPAthena,” a specialty sister salon to Minx Houston.  –alex green

What new and exciting thing will you do with nail color this year?

At SPAthena, we’re taking color to new boundaries, offering clients the latest in style, designs and colors. I’m mixing various styles to create custom colors and looks for each client.

What makes Minx unique?

SPAthena-Minx Houston is an experience. We’re the only facility in the country that offers services for advanced medical nail care. We service clients with diabetes and other medical conditions who require special care for their hands and feet. Minx Houston offers glamour nail services that you will see on your favorite celebrity.

In addition to great designs, what else should clients expect from Minx Houston?

Clients should expect a timely visit and an extremely clean service. We adhere to the highest sanitary standards and go above the call of duty to ensure your safety. It’s also a very welcoming atmosphere, where you can relax, have a glass of wine from our signature moscato drip, and forget about the troubles of the day.

What projects do you have in the works that we should be aware of?

Building both my spa through Medinail Learning Center and my radio show on Nail Talk Radio, “The Industry Fix,” are my top priorities, and both are growing at a rapid pace. “The Industry Fix” is the only show of its kind, focusing on the nail tech profession, and has amassed a huge following in a short amount of time. My co-host, Naja Rickette, and I are now being requested to host live shows.

What tips can you give anyone who wants to be in your area of business?

This industry is talent-based, and you must be able to offer your clients the latest style they’ve seen on their favorite celeb. If you can’t keep up, you’ll definitely lose business. Learn as much as possible. Follow your dreams with passion and determination. It’s not an easy road, and you will be met with many challenges, but, if it’s what you want, go for it.
