Yesterday, Mars, 25, plead guilty to cocaine possession, a charge stemming from his arrest on Sept. 19, 2010, when he was caught in a bathroom with 2.6 ounces of cocaine following a performance at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas.
Following his guilty plea, Clark County District Judge Jessie Walsh sentenced Mars to probation, a $2,000 fine, 200 hours of community service at a nonprofit organization and eight hours with a drug counselor in Los Angeles.
Sweetening the deal for the first-time offender, the judge promised that, if Mars stays out of trouble for the next year, he’ll avoid any prison time and have no conviction placed on his record. However, if he breaks the deal, he could face up to four years in state prison.
With such a lenient sentence, a question is raised. Is Mars getting off so easily because it’s his first offense?
