During his speech, which was delivered on Sunday, Feb. 27 at the Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Ill., Farrakhan criticized the pop star for her barely there fashions and sexually charged performance at this year’s Grammys and called her fans “swine,” a term he also reserved for gays and lesbians during his speech.
“I saw my beautiful sister, the other night, at the Grammy awards. Rihanna, my poor sister, and she dressed almost like with a pair of drawers,” said Farrakhan. “And she got her legs wide open and is just grinding away. ‘Aw look at Rihanna. Go on, girl!’ If that didn’t revolt you, you’re beginning to be a swine.”
Never one to shy away from criticism, Rihanna fired back the next day on Twitter, criticizing Farrakhan and defending her fans.
“A Minister says I perform filthy, sat+watched the filth, then called u SWINE for doin the same!Haa,Is that judgment in ur tone? #justgetsbettR,” wrote Rihanna. “I certainly don’t think u are swine! But a holy man of God does!!! #swineNavy”
Exactly how Rihanna’s Grammy performance made its way into Farrakhan’s speech still baffles us but considering that the Nation of Islam leader also mentioned that he plans to stick by his longtime friend, Libyan dictator Moammar Gadhafi, despite his alleged crimes against humanity, we think he should be more concerned with his own public image.
