Last month, it was reported that “106 & Park” DJ Corey “DJ Megatron” McGriff was gunned down during a botched robbery attempt in Staten Island, N.Y. Now, two men have been arrested in connection with his murder and have pleaded not guilty to the crime.
According to accessatlanta.com, William Williams and Richard Cromwell were arrested April 6 on murder, robbery and criminal possession of a weapon charges.
The two were identified by witnesses and video surveillance from the scene of the murder, with Williams being accused of firing the fatal shot to the chest that occurred during the scuffle.
The murder occurred on March 27 while DJ Megatron was walking through his Staten Island neighborhood, on his way to the store.
Although it initially appeared to police that nothing was stolen from DJ Megatron’s body, prosecutors, on Thursday, said that Williams and Cromwell stole the victim’s wristwatch.
Williams’ attorney, Mario Gallucci, expressed his sorrow concerning DJ Megatron’s death, but asked that the public reserve judgment of his client.
“It’s a shame that such a rising star lost his life in such a tragic way,” Gallucci said. “But we ask you, the public, not to rush to judgment about my client.”
