Jalen Rose Faces Drunk Driving Charges; Criticized by Duke's Basketball Coach for 'Uncle Tom' Comments

Jalen Rose will face charges on suspicion of drunk driving in April. According to reports, Rose was arrested on March 11 after his car slid off an icy road in Detroit.  Rose declined to take a Breathalyzer test once the police arrived at the scene, but he eventually took a blood alcohol test. Although police officers admitted that the icy roads could have been a factor in the crash, Rose was still arrested for operating a vehicle while impaired.

Rose continues to capture the media’s attention since the release of the ESPN documentary, Fab Five. His controversial remarks in the film regarding Duke’s recruitment of black players from privileged backgrounds upset those who are affiliated with the program. Grant Hill wrote a scathing op-ed piece in the New York Times and coach Mike Kryzyzewski recently called Rose’s comments insulting.

However, Hill and Kryzyzewski were equally out of line for ridiculing Rose for what he thought about Duke as a 17 year-old kid from Detroit’s inner city. In the film, Rose admitted that he was uninformed and more emotional during that time of his life.

Days before Rose’s arrest, he was in Detroit for the ground breaking of his charter school, the Jalen Rose Leadership Academy.–amir shaw
