Book: Single Parent, Who Me?
Why is Single Parent, Who Me? important?
Single Parent, Who Me? is so important because a lot of people never plan to raise their kids alone. It happens for many different reasons, and the struggle of doing this is “a pain that is unheard of.” In this book, I chronicle my story to illustrate the life of a single parent from a woman’s perspective, through real-life experiences. Additionally, there are so many single parents, men and women, who need to be encouraged and praised for their hard work.
Why did you feel this story needed to be told?
This story needs to be told because single parenting strikes many families today, young and old. There are so many single parents who need to hear the story of someone who is not just holding on, but who’s exceeding expectations and not proclaiming to be perfect. Not only does my story chronicle the trials and tribulations of being a single parent, but it provides a success story in the end, letting others know that life is all about choices, and we are in control of choosing to succeed.
What has been the most rewarding feedback from this book?
The most rewarding feedback has been the reader’s response to Chapter IV, “Who Do You Blame?” I was told that this chapter was very [relatable] and stimulating because it focused on questionable relationships in their infant stages, rhetorically asking the question, “Who do you blame?” Other reviews said that the book was so captivating that some finished it within hours and others within one day. Another review was that the prayer at the end of the book gave the reader a sense of hope for their situations.
What other projects do you have on tap?
Currently, I minister [through] “one-woman shows,” where I convey a spiritual message through acting and singing, playing the role of multiple characters. I am a motivational speaker for different youth organizations throughout Houston, and I teach private acting classes.
