Celebrities like Beyoncé and Vanessa Hudgens are bringing out their inner love child this summer with the newest hair trend — tinsel and feather hair extensions. Yes, tinsel and feathers. Just think of them as a fun and fabulous way to add oomph and style to your hair.
To add a little “hair bling” to your strands, try tinsel, and not the kind you hang from a Christmas tree. The hair tinsel look gives you thin strands of color in your hair, which is great for those who want something new but aren’t ready to commit to permanent color.
Feather hair extensions are actual feathers available in an array of colors — from bright blue to soft hued brown — that are easily and inexpensively applied to your hair to add subtle or dramatic highlights without damage or altering color. The best part is that they are made to last and can be washed, dried, flat-ironed or curled, just like regular hair extensions. Feather extensions can remain in your hair for up to eight weeks and most are sold in lengths of eight to 16 inches and can be cut to your desired length, just like hair.
All it takes to apply the extensions are your choice of feathers, hair extension micro links, a hair hook and a set of clamps. Both of these techniques are offered in salons by professionals, including Atlanta’s GlamBar Salon.
