Miss Mykie Talks Nonprofits and 'That Pink That Green'

Artist to know: Miss Mykie

Label: Keys and Ink

Who she’s worked with: Jazze Pha, Paul Wall, Drake and Rick Ross, to name a few

How she got her big break: That Pink That Green mixtape series

What is the name of your current project?

I am currently working on “That Pink That Green V.4,” which will be dropping this summer. We have dropped two songs from this mixtape already. Both videos to the songs are on my YouTube and were featured on WSHH [World Star Hip Hop]. I just released “Love Repair,” which is a six-song special edition EP that we actually shot a mini movie for. The EP features up-and-coming rapper Marcus Manchild and was debuted in Houston to a sold-out audience.

How do you describe your musical style?

It is a mixture between R&B, pop and hip-hop. I have a grungy hard sound, but I am also able to switch to soft and seductive, which is surprising to new listeners. They don’t expect what I bring to records, which I love.

What are you bringing to the table that no other artist is bringing?

No other artist has my sound. My sound is most definitely new and fresh. Nobody can sing one of my records and sound just like me! No other artist has represented their Greek organization the way that I have as well. People who know me and my music know that I put on for Alpha Kappa Alpha!  I also have my own nonprofit organization called the Ivy League Foundation.  The foundation’s purpose is to unite our youth and help them become more involved with being of service to our community.
