What is the Oprah’s Conference Call Party?

My husband, Lee Griffin, was the mastermind behind the conference call party. He is so innovative and creative. It was a great way to commemorate the “Oprah Show” on its last day and brought us [Griffin and finalists Lorenzo Owens and Jackie Perkins] all together in one place via technology to remember the wonderful experience that we shared. The conference call party gave every caller a chance to call in and listen to Oprah’s pop stars, and fans who had questions could send them in before the conference call party. Lastly, we shared vital information about the music industry that we have gained over these past years that can help up-and-coming artists.

How did winning “Oprah’s Pop Star Challenge” change your life?

Before the Oprah Show, I only sang at church and at home. Oprah gave me the chance of a lifetime by allowing me to perform before the world on her stage and by touring with her. I have a passport I never thought I would need, and I performed in Trinidad, London a few times and Zimbabwe. This opportunity has allowed me to share the stage with artists like Mary J Blige, Alicia Keys, Earth Wind & Fire, Babyface, Jennifer Hudson and so many others. My life will never be the same.

What new projects do you have in the works that we should know about?

I am currently writing new music for my fourth solo project on my record label, DAP Music (Dreams Are Possible), and I have a new poem book that will be released later this year. We are also very excited to present our 16-year-old daughter, Briana, who recorded a tribute song titled “Oprah” available on iTunes. Fans can also get an autographed copy of my latest CD, titled Dreams Are Possible, on my website. The title track was performed in the Kennedy family’s Special Olympics Closing Ceremony in 2010 and is currently being promoted to the film industry, the NBA and the 2012 Olympic Games in London.
