Connecting with Akon’s Konvict Music …
I was in the mix with a lot of people that are in the business. Akon came across my song in the club. We played him a lot more of my records. From there, it was magic.
Currently working on …
Music for my album, videos and visuals to increase my visibility, and let people know who I am.
How strong is your digital reputation?
I am heating up on Twitter [@young swift].
Growing up in Durham …
It was great and very cultured. As far as the music scene, it’s blended with Down South and East Coast music. I did a lot of performances in the city, in North Carolina, as a whole, and in The Triangle.
When did you know that you would be an artist?
I knew at 13. That’s when I quit sports — football and basketball. I was real athletic.
Instruments you play …
I play the piano, a little.
What are you learning from Akon?
I am learning a lot about the business and watching the moves he makes. He’s helped mold my sound. He started that early on. He saw something that I was doing, and he told me what to work in more and continue to grow. He’s a great man.
How do you keep the ladies off you with those handsome hazel eyes?
I don’t want to get in trouble. [Laughs]
What is your idea of a perfect woman?
She has to be smart and attractive. A cool chick who I can chill with and vibe with.
Do you have a steady girlfriend?
Next question … I plead the Fifth. [Laughs]
Album drops …
We haven’t set a date, but expect to see and hear from me really soon … Charge Nation coming soon.
