Chris Brown has been in a whirlwind of trouble over the past two weeks. After becoming embroiled in a heated Twitter feud with Odd Future members Frank Ocean and Tyler, The Creator, last week, Brown then ruffled the feathers of the LGBT community when he used a gay slur in anger on June 21. Now the singer has apologized for the gay slur, and has ended his growing feud with the Odd Future members.
According to TMZ, Brown hurled the gay slur at several photographers whom he believed tipped off Los Angeles parking enforcement to his illegally parked car.
Before talking his way out of the parking ticket, Brown yelled at the photographers, “Y’all n—as is weak. Did you call them to try and film me? Y’all n—as is gay!”
The incident, which was caught on camera, ignited a backlash against Brown from gay rights groups.
“Invoking words meant to demean gay Americans is just plain unacceptable. Chris Brown should know better,” said a rep for the Human Rights Campaign to TMZ.
On June 22, Brown issued a Twitter apology to the LGBT community, explaining that he didn’t mean any disrespect with the remark.
“I have total respect for Gay community and my intention was not to insult anyone in it. #REALS–T,” tweeted Brown.
On June 23, Brown continued to make amends for his past transgressions when he put an end to his feud with Ocean and Tyler. The feud was sparked last week when Ocean took offense to a seemingly innocent compliment from Brown, igniting a war of words between Brown, Ocean and Tyler and garnering mediation from The Game.
Although the beef had seemingly quieted down, video footage surfaced on the Internet showing a group of men who are alleged to be Brown’s cousins, chastising and chasing Ocean as they filmed the altercation with the singer-producer.
Later that day, Brown took to Twitter to publicly end the feud and make peace with the Odd Future members.
“This beef –t is stupid, @frank_ocean I respect ya music and you and Odd Future! Ain’t beefing wit nobody. Y’all can have that! Love,” tweeted Brown.
Ocean also commented on the feud, saying things had gone too far and needed to be resolved.
“alrite. this has to end,” tweeted Ocean. “freeze on social networks for a minute. freeze on the internet. freeze on the matrix. real world time. brb,”
Fellow Odd Future member, Tyler, also added his two cents, explaining to Brown that he was also done with the feud.
“@chrisbrown S–t Got Too Real On Both Ends. I’m Over It. We’re All Over This S–t. Its Stupid As F–k. Swag It Out,” tweeted Tyler
Now that Brown has finally made peace with his latest slew of enemies, perhaps he can finally follow Game’s advice and get back to focusing on making music. –nicholas robinson
